Even for those who can’t get hold of those sought after World Cup tickets, it’s still possible to be in the thick of the football festivities in Gelsenkirchen. All matches during the 32 World Cup days will be shown live on a video screen in the Glückaufkampfbahn – the stadium home fans still associate with their last national championship victory in 1958.
GlückaufkampfbahnGlückaufkampfbahn

The Glückaufkampfbahn served the Schalker ‘Knappen’ (an old German word for miner) as a football ground from 1928 until 1973. Originally designed to accommodate 35,000 spectators, this legendary stadium at times had up to 70,000 crammed in, right up to the edges of the goal posts.

Now the nostalgic site of Schalke’s early successes is getting a new lease of life and during the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ will be the city’s second most important venue. No entrance tickets will be required – and to top it all, there will be a huge cultural support programme.

Daily programme
Live broadcast of the 56 World Cup games on a 60 square metre video screen is just one part of the extensive and free 2006 FIFA World Cup™ programme. Background reporting, interviews and live link-ups with the other World Cup venues will be shown as well as exciting entertainment in the form of daily changing shows performed on a large open-air stage.
The FIFA FAN FEST is a jointly produced event between FIFA WM Gelsenkirchen and emschertainment GmbH.

As well as the draw of daily events, there will be exhibition areas around the stadium with gastronomic delights to savour and music to enjoy – plus many other sport offerings and services for football fans from around the world.
