Gelsenkirchen plays host to the cultures of the world
What would an event like the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ be without its international guests? Even in the Glückaufkampfbahn, we will have guests from every continent. Music and dance from Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, the Caribbean, Korea, Japan and Ghana are just part of what’s on offer at the FAN FEST.
But the musical festivities won’t be confined to the seven evening concerts held on the match-free days. On the 25 match days, different shows every day providing a whole spectrum of music will be presented from 1 pm onwards.
Gelsenkirchen for the world
The Ruhr area definitely counts as having one of the most diversified and stimulating music scenes in the world. And at the FAN FEST, numerous Gelsenkirchen bands will be pulling in fans from all over the world with rock, funk, hip hop, garage, metal, soul funk and party sounds.
But other kinds of sounds will be ringing out from the Ruhr too. The Consolidation Colliery Orchestra or the Knappen (an old German word for miner)-Choir will represent the area’s mining tradition and classical music will be provided by the New Westphalian Philharmonic, one of Germany’s foremost orchestras.

Stars
Ticket prices are low at each of our seven international stars’ evening concerts. But even when admission is free, you won’t be missing out on the music of the stars! The Lords will be there in person and cover bands will emulate the likes of Queen, Udo Jürgens, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Genesis.
Specials
Particular days will be given a special logo. For instance, on Family Day, the stage programme will be specially organized for children. A Schalke Day in Gelsenkirchen is a must, but with reflection in mind, an ecumenical church service with concert has been organized too.
Programme of shows
A richly varied programme of shows will be broadcast in between the music acts and match transmissions. The programme includes presentations, karaoke, interviews, films, sponsors’ shows, raffles and fan club competitions plus the GRAND DRAW for WORLD CUP TICKETS donated by FAN FEST sponsors.
Finale
After the World Cup Final, a huge celebration firework display will be held to herald the close of the FAN FEST and the new World Cup champions’ victory.
